Great turn out for our First event of 2024, a drop in Children’s Lunar New Year craft workshop, last Thursday, 15th February. Thanks to all who came along and participated and enjoyed the day.

Thursday 12th and Saturday 14th October

Many thanks to the families from near and far who came along to the museum to help us celebrate the Tattie Holidays with crafts, science and stories. Thanks also to Tesco for their Blue Token funding and to Kevin from Branston Ltd Abernethy for the donations of tatties and other goodies and to Logan in the cafe for making all that tattie soup.

Our last talk of the season ended with a special treat in the form of samples of Jannettas  delicious ice cream and sorbet courtesy of our speaker Owen Hazel  proprietor of the well known Gelateria in St Andrews

Today we held the final Spoon Carving Workshop for this year. On each occasion the session was lead by woodsman Colin Harper from Comrie Croft. Colin’s skill and easy going manner made him a hit with those taking part indeed several participants have returned more than once for a further session. Thanks to Colin we plan to hold further workshops next year on the first Sunday of each month.

Bruce Keith “are we nearly there yet”

Bruce Keith’s second book, “Are we nearly there yet?”, celebrates Scotland’s milestones. As well as the traditional distance markers along our highways, he reflects on the country’s early measurement systems and maps and the travellers of the 18th and 19th century whose journals laid the foundation of the modern tourist industry.

Childrens workshop Aug 11th

Our final childrens workshop of the holidays. We dress up as victorians, listened to stories round the fire, played with some victorian toys and made a cup and ball game to take home. All made possible by the Tesco blue token scheme. Many thanks to all the families who came each week and took part.

Another enjoyable children’s workshop in the museum this morning. The young people were helping the environment and nature by creating birdboxes and bee feeders to place out and about.

“Flour, water salt “

With so many of the foods we consume these days containing a multitude of unpronounceable ingredients, there is something pleasing and simple about being able to produce a staple food with just three ingredients. During this talk, we will look a bit into the magic that happens when flour, water and salt are mixed together, and how the process of producing sourdough has changed over the years.’
