Weights and Measures
Housed in the 17th century Tollbooth, our comprehensive collection of weighing machines includes many by the Fife firm of John White of Auchtermuchty. The displays show the development from equal-armed beam scales and steelyards through counter machines and spring balances, to self-indicating machines and smaller balances used by chemists and Post Offices. There are wooden dry measures for grain, liquid measures in copper and brass and a surveyor's chain.
