A Warm Welcome to the Fife Folk Museum

Welcome to the website for the Fife Folk Museum in Ceres. We hope you will enjoy a glimpse of the collections as you explore this site and that it will whet your appetite for a visit. The collections are housed in beautiful, listed buildings, including the original Tollbooth and adjacent weavers' cottages. Ceres itself is a charming village with a communal green and a burn running through its centre. The village boasts the most ancient free games event in Scotland, which originated as a celebration for the men of Ceres returning from the victorious battle of Bannockburn in 1314. A visit to Fife would not be complete without a tour of this lovely museum which celebrates the working lives of the people of Fife; their agricultural life, crafts and industries, fashions, textiles and home lives. The museum provides a unique resource for research into the past of this special county, the Kingdom of Fife.
